A Brighter Way has a big event scheduled for Tuesday, February 25th, 6:30-8:30pm.
The event is titled “Returning to Society from Prison: What We Can Do Better” and will explore the unique factors that have led to Washtenaw County leading the state in returns to prison and jail. We will have a panel, brief individual presenters, and Q&A from audience members. The group will discuss underlying issues but also practical solutions to the problem that have been proven to work but are not adequately supported and funded.
We want to fill the room. We plan on inviting local politicians and people who work in the field of reentry. However, we also just simply want to bring more people into the conversation.
To frame it another way: the biggest challenges are accessible housing, quality employment, but also a lack of funding for quality services. The more people who we can get engaged in the conversation, the more we can come together as a community to address the problem.
